My name is Jon Main and I’m running for Mayor of Midland Ontario. I was born and raised here, and it’s where I’m raising my two young kids with my wife. Midland is an amazing community and together we can build a better tomorrow. I have served the community as a Councillor for two terms (since 2014) and have been actively involved with several boards and committees.  

Here is an overview of my key priorities and policies for next term:

Affordable Housing: Work with partner organizations to build housing on municipal lands. Update the zoning bylaws to create more housing, including infill and 2nd units.

Economic Recovery: Promote and support local businesses as we adapt. Advocate for poverty reduction strategies, and community living wage adoption.

Livability: Ensure the wellbeing of Midland residents by building an age-friendly and inclusive community. Expand recreation programming, seniors services, and youth engagement.

Infrastructure: Invest in our critical infrastructure. Fight for more provincial and federal funding.

Transportation: Make Midland’s roads safer for all. Expand cycling infrastructure. Install new sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. Deliver connected, reliable transit.

Parks and Public Realm: Invest significantly in new playgrounds and amenities. 

Climate Action: Show leadership by adopting environmental initiatives like community energy planning, street and park trees, and biodiversity.

Culture and Events: Build on the success of our events and cultural heritage. Encourage street festivals, community and park events, and beautification.

Partnerships and Collaboration: Continue strong partnerships with community groups. Strengthen relationships with local Indigenous communities and organizations.
